For a tall building charges have to go off one at a time in consecutive order. Please notice the the trademark "cat tail" blasts of demo charges blowing out the supports.

In the above film you can clearly see the cat tail smoke from the demolition charges going off in consecutive order. This collapses sections at a time one after another. If you were there, you would hear a pow, pow, pow going off one after another.
