(ABCNEWS.com) Meeting Saddam Diplomat Joe Wilson Recalls Meeting With the Iraqi Leader By Chris Bury and Theresa Bradley -Oct. 25-

"Lo and behold, there's Saddam Hussein!" That's how Joe Wilson recalls meeting the Iraqi leader back in 1990. Wilson, who was the United States' main representative in Baghdad on the eve of the Gulf War, was one of the last U.S. officials to stand eye-to-eye with Saddam Hussein. As acting ambassador, Wilson played a lonely game of hardball with the iniquitous Iraqi leader. Called to the Iraqi Foreign Ministry just four days after Iraq invaded Kuwait, Wilson found himself facing Saddam — and playing mind games of his own with the master. "Someone once told me that the look that he gave his visitors was reptilian, sort of like a snake hypnotizing his prey," Wilson recalls. "I remember when I saw him the first time, I thought to myself, 'Well, he's trying to play the who's-going-to-blink-first game." Wilson wasn't daunted: "As the father of twins, I'm an expert at that game. I can go for a long time without blinking."
